Asian stock markets climbed on Wednesday, 22 July 2026, led by semiconductor shares. South Korea's KOSPI rose about 5.9% to 7,149, a fresh record, while Japan's Nikkei 225 gained about 1.8% to near 67,400.
The main driver was a roughly 5% jump in the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index during the prior US session. Memory-chip makers such as SK Hynix and Kioxia each rose about 9%.
Even so, concern over US-Iran tension, higher oil prices, and anticipation of earnings from major US companies (including Tesla and Alphabet) capped part of the advance.

General Motors Beats Q2 2026 Estimates and Raises Full-Year Guidance
General Motors, the largest US automaker, reported adjusted earnings of $3.57 per share for the second quarter on Tuesday, 21 July 2026, up 41 percent from a year earlier and above analysts' consensus of $3.13. The company attributed the result to pricing power, strong truck sales and cost discipline. GM raised its full-year 2026 adjusted operating profit outlook to a range of $14 billion to $16 billion (about $12 to $14 in adjusted earnings per share) and trimmed its expected gross tariff costs for the year to $2.5 billion to $3.5 billion, from $3 billion to $4 billion, citing a US Supreme Court ruling that struck down part of the emergency tariffs.

Parliament's economic commission opposes the new directive on releasing 'justice shares'
In mid-Tir 1405 (July 2026), members of parliament's economic commission and the cooperatives-and-justice-shares faction opposed the Securities and Exchange Organization's new directive on the mechanism for releasing 'justice shares' (saham-e edalat), and in a letter to the parliament speaker called for it to be reconsidered. According to the deputy head of the economic commission, the directive, which has been put before the Supreme Council of Securities, contains serious ambiguities and weaknesses, including an unclear oversight mechanism and undefined spending standards at the provincial justice-share investment companies. The lawmakers stressed that any hasty decision on how these shares are freed and managed should be halted. Justice shares are an asset held by millions of Iranians, and any change in how they are administered bears directly on the equity market.

Saudi Tadawul index falls 0.4% to 10,699 on Tuesday as oil slides
