CENTCOM says more than 1,000 commercial ships have been escorted through the Strait of Hormuz since early May

A spokesperson for the United States Central Command (CENTCOM) said in remarks published on Monday, 3 August 2026 (12 Mordad 1405), that US forces have accompanied and supported the passage of more than 1,000 commercial ships through the Strait of Hormuz since the beginning of May.
According to the spokesperson, US forces in the waters of the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz are at "the highest level of alert" and are fully prepared for any mission assigned to them. The spokesperson added that CENTCOM is monitoring maritime security in the region and supporting commercial vessels seeking to transit the waterway.
The Strait of Hormuz is the main export route for Persian Gulf oil, and traffic conditions there have become one of the variables shaping global crude prices and shipping costs since the recent conflict began.

Iran Energy Exchange admits power from 32 renewable and distributed generation plants
The 237th supply committee of the Iran Energy Exchange met on the evening of Sunday, 2 August 2026, and took decisions on admitting energy carriers to its physical and secondary markets as well as on the allocation of energy saving certificates. According to the Iranian capital market news agency Sena, the meeting approved the admission of electricity from 32 renewable and distributed generation power plants to the physical market of the Iran Energy Exchange. The admission of electricity from two retail supply companies to the secondary market was also approved. At the same meeting, the committee agreed to allocate 4,088,684 natural gas saving certificates and 51,929,578 electricity saving certificates to applicants. Saving certificates are instruments used to trade volumes of conserved energy on the energy exchange.

Trump urges oil companies to cut retail fuel prices
US President Donald Trump on Monday, 3 August 2026, called on Chevron and other major oil companies to lower retail fuel prices for consumers. In a post on the Truth Social platform, he praised Chevron's performance but said the same applied to other oil companies, urging them to bring their consumer retail prices down now. The remarks followed Chevron's announcement on Friday, 31 July, of a record quarterly net profit of $12.1 billion. The large profits reported by major oil companies have come on the back of global supply disruptions caused by the Iran war. Chevron Chief Executive Mike Wirth warned in an interview with Fox News on Sunday, 2 August, that escalating tensions with Iran and Houthi strikes on Saudi energy infrastructure have raised the risk of a fresh disruption to global oil shipments. He said that not only the Strait of Hormuz but also the Red Sea and the Black Sea now carry risks and uncertainties, and that the risks to supply are very real.

Kuwait in talks with Arab neighbors on oil pipeline to bypass Strait of Hormuz
Kuwaiti Oil Minister Tariq Sulaiman Al-Roumi said on Monday, 3 August 2026, that his country is in talks with Saudi Arabia and several other Arab states on building a new crude oil export pipeline that would bypass the Strait of Hormuz. Speaking to Japan's Kyodo news agency, he said one proposed route would run from Kuwait through Saudi Arabia to the Red Sea or Oman, while another would connect the country to the UAE's Fujairah port. Al-Roumi described the project as "huge" and said Kuwait is currently looking for the most cost effective option. The minister said Kuwaiti oil exports have "completely stopped" because of the effective closure of the Strait of Hormuz, and that exports will remain at zero for as long as the waterway stays blocked. Kuwait, which lies at the head of the Persian Gulf, had been one of Japan's major crude suppliers before the US and Israeli war against Iran began in late February 2026. Al-Roumi added that rebuilding some of the damaged oil storage tanks would take at least a year, and that Kuwait is also in discussions on raising strategic reserves held in friendly countries. He said the country's vital facilities, including the oil sector, are protected by air defenses.

Iran's guaranteed wheat purchase from farmers passes 7.5 million tonnes
Iran's Government Trading Corporation said in a report published on Monday, 3 August 2026 (12 Mordad 1405), that guaranteed wheat purchases from farmers across 31 provinces have passed 7.5 million tonnes since the start of the current Iranian year. With a further tranche of payments settled in recent days, the amount paid to wheat growers has exceeded 1,100 trillion rials (110 trillion tomans). The purchase operation began in late March with the first deliveries in the south of the country, and buying is now at its peak in western and north western provinces. Khuzestan leads the table with 1.4 million tonnes, followed by Golestan with 850,000 tonnes, Fars with 700,000 tonnes, Kermanshah with 650,000 tonnes and Razavi Khorasan with 450,000 tonnes. The corporation said the remaining payments owed to wheat growers are being pursued as the necessary funding is secured.
