China's central bank (the PBOC) left its benchmark loan prime rates unchanged on Monday, July 20, 2026: the one-year rate, the reference for most household and corporate loans, stayed at 3.00%, and the five-year rate, which guides mortgage pricing, at 3.50%. It was the 14th consecutive month of steady rates and matched market expectations.
The decision came as China's economic growth in the second quarter of 2026 slowed to its weakest pace since the fourth quarter of 2022, with policymakers cautious about the fallout from the West Asia war. For Iran, whose largest oil buyer is China, the state of Chinese energy demand and the yuan's path carry direct significance. The PBOC set Monday's dollar-yuan reference rate at 6.7948.

Gold and coin rebound in Tuesday evening trade; Emami coin nears 185 million tomans as premium shrinks
Tehran's gold and coin market reversed its morning slide on the evening of Tuesday, 21 July 2026. The Emami coin climbed about 1.6 percent back toward 185 million tomans, after retreating to around 182 million tomans earlier in the day. A gram of 18-karat gold rose about 1.5 percent to nearly 18.45 million tomans. The quarter coin edged up to around 52.8 million tomans, while the half coin traded near 94 million tomans. As gold and the dollar rose, the Emami coin's premium (the so-called bubble) narrowed markedly, easing to around 5 million tomans. The evening rebound in the domestic market was driven mainly by the higher free-market dollar rate and the swing in the global gold ounce near the 4,000 dollar area.
