IAEA Reviewing Reports of Overnight Strike on Darkhovin Nuclear Plant Construction Site; No Radiological Risk Reported

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said on Sunday, 19 July 2026, that it is reviewing reports of an overnight attack on the construction site of a planned nuclear power plant at Darkhovin in southwestern Iran. The agency said the attack occurred early Sunday and, based on an initial assessment, posed no radiological risk, because the facility is in the very early stages of construction and contained no nuclear material when IAEA inspectors last visited.
Director General Rafael Grossi again called for maximum military restraint in the vicinity of all nuclear-related facilities, and said the agency had contacted Iranian authorities and would share more information as it became available. The report comes amid intensifying US strikes on Iran and follows an earlier report of damage at the Bushehr nuclear plant site.

Gold and coin rebound in Tuesday evening trade; Emami coin nears 185 million tomans as premium shrinks
Tehran's gold and coin market reversed its morning slide on the evening of Tuesday, 21 July 2026. The Emami coin climbed about 1.6 percent back toward 185 million tomans, after retreating to around 182 million tomans earlier in the day. A gram of 18-karat gold rose about 1.5 percent to nearly 18.45 million tomans. The quarter coin edged up to around 52.8 million tomans, while the half coin traded near 94 million tomans. As gold and the dollar rose, the Emami coin's premium (the so-called bubble) narrowed markedly, easing to around 5 million tomans. The evening rebound in the domestic market was driven mainly by the higher free-market dollar rate and the swing in the global gold ounce near the 4,000 dollar area.
