Michael Saylor's Strategy Sells Bitcoin for First Time in Years, Raises $216 Million
Jul 11, 2026
Strategy (formerly MicroStrategy), led by Michael Saylor, sold a total of 3,588 bitcoin across two tranches between June 29 and July 5, 2026, raising $216 million in what CoinDesk, reporting July 6, 2026, described as the company's largest bitcoin sale to date. The sales comprised 1,363 BTC at an average price of $59,256 and 2,225 BTC at an average of $60,773, with proceeds used to fund dividends on the company's "Digital Credit" preferred shares. The sale reduced Strategy's bitcoin holdings to 843,775 coins, though it remains the largest corporate bitcoin treasury in the world. The move marks the first reversal of Saylor's long standing "never sell" stance on the company's bitcoin holdings.

Tether freezes about $131 million in crypto linked to Iran's central bank
After the US Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) added four wallets tied to Iran's central bank to its sanctions list on 14 July 2026, Tether froze about $131 million of USDT stablecoin held in those wallets. According to published reports, the move brought the total blocked USDT linked to Iran's central bank to roughly $475 million. Because Tether controls the USDT contracts, it can block an address and halt transfers of its tokens, even though the balance remains visible on the public blockchain. The sanctions followed the collapse of the ceasefire and the resumption of strikes.
