Iran's gold funds hold net assets around 678 trillion tomans as 582 billion tomans of retail money flows in

According to a report by Iran's capital market news agency Sena covering the week to 9 Mordad 1405 (31 July 2026), the net asset value of gold funds held around 678 trillion tomans while the funds attracted a combined 582 billion tomans of retail money. Turnover in gold bullion deposit certificates also rose over the same week. Over that period spot gold opened the week at 4,077 dollars an ounce, slipped to 4,029 dollars in the early sessions, moved back above 4,100 dollars on Thursday and finished the week at 4,043 dollars, a weekly return of minus 0.45 percent. Silver opened at 58.43 dollars an ounce, rose as far as 59.08 dollars and closed at 57.66 dollars, a weekly return of plus 0.2 percent. In Sena's assessment, continued retail inflows into gold based instruments during a week of price correction indicate that some investors treated the pullback as a buying opportunity.

Global gold records its first monthly gain in five months with spot at $4,076.53 an ounce

On Friday 31 July 2026, spot gold fell 0.5 percent to $4,076.53 an ounce but was headed for a weekly rise of 0.7 percent and a monthly gain of about 1.8 percent, its first monthly increase in five months. US gold futures for August delivery lost 0.5 percent to $4,079.60. Bargain buying around the $4,000 level was the main support behind the monthly gain. The US dollar index firmed about 0.3 percent the same day, after diving 2.4 percent on Thursday 30 July 2026, its biggest single day drop since January 2023. A stronger dollar makes dollar denominated commodities more expensive for overseas buyers. The Federal Reserve left interest rates unchanged at its meeting on Wednesday 29 July 2026, and Chair Kevin Warsh gave little indication of the central bank's next policy move. According to CME Group's FedWatch tool, markets are pricing in a 63 percent chance of a rate hike in September. Spot silver also fell 0.5 percent the same day, to $58.70 an ounce.

According to a Shafaq News market survey, gold prices climbed in Baghdad and Erbil on Saturday 1 August 2026, with the mithqal, equivalent to five grams, hovering around 860,000 Iraqi dinars. On Baghdad's Al Nahr Street, 21 carat gold of Persian Gulf, Turkish and European origin recorded a selling price of 866,000 dinars per mithqal and a buying price of 862,000 dinars. The same gold had sold for 853,000 dinars on Thursday 30 July 2026. Iraqi 21 carat gold traded at a selling price of 836,000 dinars and a buying price of 832,000 dinars. In jewellery stores, 21 carat Persian Gulf gold ranged between 865,000 and 875,000 dinars, while Iraqi gold sold for between 835,000 and 845,000 dinars. In Erbil, 22 carat gold sold at 900,000 dinars per mithqal, 21 carat at 860,000 dinars and 18 carat at 736,000 dinars. Iraq's gold market matters for Iran because Baghdad and Erbil pricing is one of the channels through which precious metal and the dinar move in cross border trade between the two countries.

World Gold Council: central banks bought just 57 tonnes in the first quarter of 2026, 187 tonnes below the initial estimate

The latest World Gold Council report, reported on Saturday, 1 August 2026 (10 Mordad 1405), shows central banks bought just 57 tonnes of gold in the first quarter of 2026, some 187 tonnes less than initial estimates. That is the weakest start to a year for official-sector buying in more than a decade, and after the revision the full-year pace is likely to fall below the 2025 level. Central bank demand recovered between April and June 2026 to a net 289 tonnes, a record for a second quarter. Poland led the buyers with 51 tonnes in the period, taking its first-half total to 82 tonnes, while China bought 33 tonnes. A large share of these purchases is never formally announced by the monetary authorities themselves; the consultancy Metals Focus estimates them for the Council using a mix of public data, trade statistics and field research. Spot gold has been supported around the 4,000 dollar an ounce area since late June 2026. Central banks have been the main engine of gold's multi-year rally, and a slowdown in their buying is one of the variables that feeds through to Iran's domestic gold and coin market.
