Tehran Stock Exchange drew 6,300 billion tomans of retail money last week as the equal weight index set a record with a 5.66 percent gain

Aug 1, 2026

The Tehran Stock Exchange ended the week to 30 July 2026 with its indices higher, after two weeks of correction. According to a report by the Tasnim news agency, the main TEDPIX index rose 3.9 percent over the week to 5,075,000 points, reclaiming the psychological threshold of 5 million points.

The equal weight index performed more strongly, rising 5.66 percent to 1,432,000 points, its best weekly showing in six weeks and a new all time high. The equal weight gauge outpacing the main index indicates that last week's flow of liquidity moved mainly toward small and mid sized companies.

Retail investors were net buyers on four of the week's five trading days, with an outflow recorded only on the final session; in total, more than 6,300 billion tomans of retail money entered the market. The average daily value of retail trading over the week was about 27,000 billion tomans. Retail turnover and retail money flow are the two variables market participants watch to gauge liquidity and the durability of a trend.

Big tech earnings season closes above expectations, with Meta lifting its 2026 capital spending ceiling to 145 billion dollars

The big tech earnings season, which closed in the week to 1 August 2026 (10 Mordad 1405), delivered results above analyst estimates. Microsoft posted revenue and profit ahead of forecasts on the back of growth in its Azure cloud business, and its market value rose by about 450 billion dollars in a single day. Amazon reported revenue of 200.6 billion dollars, with its cloud services arm growing revenue 37 percent; Amazon shares rose more than 15 percent in trading after the results. Meta's quarterly revenue reached 60.8 billion dollars, up 28 percent from a year earlier, with net income of 15.8 billion dollars. The company raised its 2026 capital spending guidance to between 130 and 145 billion dollars, most of it going to data centres, graphics processors and artificial intelligence infrastructure. Apple's revenue for the quarter was 109.4 billion dollars, slightly above forecasts, but a cautious sales outlook and a weaker services performance left its stock under pressure. Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix also posted record results in memory chips. The direction of these companies' capital spending is one of the variables shaping global demand for chips, industrial metals and data centre power.

Tehran Stock Exchange main index closes 0.4% lower on Saturday; equal-weight index sets a closing record

The Tehran Stock Exchange main index closed on Saturday 1 August 2026 (10 Mordad 1405) down 20,435 points, or 0.4%, easing from 5,075,000 points to 5,054,000 points. On the same day the equal-weight index rose by more than 6,694 points to 1,439,000, its highest closing level on record; its intraday peak of 1,442,000 was set in the middle of the same session. The heaviest drag on the main index came from the Shepna, Shebandar and Parsan symbols, with the drilling and refined petroleum products group posting the largest sectoral decline, while Femeli, Kegol and Tasico kept the index from falling further. During the session 439 symbols traded in positive territory against 460 in negative territory, with buy and sell queues numbering 225 and 139 respectively. The divergence between the main index and the equal-weight index indicates that larger capitalisation symbols have been more sensitive to the tense political and military backdrop.

State Inspectorate: government receivables from petrochemical and refining companies reached 734 trillion tomans by late December 2025

Ashkan Mirmohammadi, spokesman for Iran's General Inspection Organisation, said on Saturday, 1 August 2026, that the government's total receivables from petrochemical and refining companies had reached 734 trillion tomans by the end of Azar 1404 (late December 2025). He said a significant portion of the debt relates to feedstock and fuel delivered to these companies. According to the announcement, of that total the National Iranian Oil Company is owed 334 trillion tomans, the National Iranian Gas Company 273 trillion tomans and the National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company 105 trillion tomans. Mirmohammadi said that in the first stage of follow up, 76 trillion tomans of the receivables were collected, along with 64 trillion tomans in guarantee cheques and 13 trillion tomans in letters of credit. After 59 warning letters were issued to indebted companies, a further 45 trillion tomans was collected, with part of the remaining claims still in the collection process. He listed the reasons put forward by the indebted companies as payments made under tax seizure orders, disputes over pricing bases, and the non payment of the companies' own counter claims against the government, adding that the Special Affairs Inspection Office is verifying those explanations. Refining and petrochemical groups are among the most heavily weighted sectors on the Tehran Stock Exchange, and settling these claims bears on their cash flow and profitability.
