Tesla posts record Q2 2026 revenue but misses on profit; revenue reaches $28.2 billion
Jul 23, 2026
Tesla released its second-quarter 2026 financial results on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, after the close of Wall Street trading. Revenue rose 26% from a year earlier to a record $28.24 billion, beating analyst estimates of about $25.7 billion. The company delivered 480,126 vehicles in the quarter, up 25% and a quarterly record.
Profitability, however, came in below expectations. Adjusted earnings were $0.33 per share, short of the roughly $0.50 analysts expected and down about 18% year over year. GAAP operating income fell 57% to about $398 million, and the operating margin narrowed to 1.4%. Tesla attributed the pressure on profit to higher research and AI spending, lower vehicle prices, and fewer regulatory credits. Tesla shares fell about 3% in after-hours trading on Wednesday.

Wall Street closes slightly lower Wednesday as oil jumps; S&P 500 ends at 7,498
Wall Street's main indexes ended slightly lower on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, after swinging during the session. The S&P 500 fell 0.14% to 7,498.96, the Nasdaq Composite slipped 0.57% to 25,690.90, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average was virtually flat (down about 6 points, or 0.01%) at 52,218.58. The main pressure came from a jump in oil prices. Brent crude rose about 3.4% on Wednesday to settle at $94.07 a barrel, its highest in more than a month and briefly above $95, while West Texas Intermediate climbed about 3% to close at $86.83. The oil rally followed an 11th consecutive night of U.S. strikes on Iran and remarks by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio that Iran is not serious about negotiations. Investors were awaiting a wave of after-hours second-quarter results from big technology companies. For Iran's markets, the oil surge and continued military tensions are the two main channels through which this session feeds into domestic gold and currency prices.

New orders jumped 88 percent to 24.2 billion dollars and the backlog reached 176 billion dollars, driven in part by demand for power for AI data centers. The company raised its 2026 revenue outlook to 45.5 to 46.5 billion dollars, but its shares fell more than 10 percent in premarket trading on margin pressure even as revenue and orders beat expectations.
