Reuters July poll sees Brent crude averaging $85.22 a barrel in 2026

In the July Reuters monthly poll of 31 economists and analysts, Brent crude was forecast to average $85.22 a barrel in 2026, up from the $84.50 forecast in June. US crude was forecast to average $80.14 a barrel, against a June estimate of $79.49. So far this year the two benchmarks have averaged $87.03 and $82.41 respectively. Tobias Keller, an analyst at UniCredit, said the main factor supporting oil prices remains geopolitical risk, which is likely to persist through the second half of the year and keep volatility elevated. Analysts at JPMorgan wrote in a note last week that every month of supply disruption adds roughly $7 to $8 a barrel to Brent, and that three months of continued disruption would push the monthly average to about $114. OPEC has revised its forecast for global oil demand growth in 2026 down for the third consecutive time, to 780,000 barrels per day. According to Reuters, sources said OPEC Plus is likely to pause its output increases for three months from October, after raising production in September.

Iran's industry minister says 115 to 120 million cubic metres of the country's 850 million cubic metre gas output is planned for industry

Mohammad Atabak, Iran's minister of industry, mine and trade, said in an interview with the IRIB news agency published on Saturday 1 August 2026 (10 Mordad 1405) that of the country's total gas output of 850 million cubic metres, roughly 115 to 120 million cubic metres is planned for industry. He said energy constraints in recent months have created a large shortfall in the production sector, and described the problem as an inheritance passed from previous governments to the fourteenth administration. Atabak said the government is working to build new power plants and reduce the imbalance, although its scale is very large. He said attacks on refineries and gas transmission lines in Assaluyeh have increased the gas deficit, but that work to restore capacity and make up the shortfall is under way before the cold season begins. Separately, the public relations office of the Khuzestan Gas Company announced that gas flow in the Kuy Shakareh 2 area of Karun county will be cut for 12 hours on Sunday 2 August 2026 (11 Mordad 1405), from 08:00 to 20:00, for emergency repairs.

Silver ingot deliveries into the Iran Mercantile Exchange treasury hit a record 2,100 kg in one day

According to the latest treasury performance report of the Iran Mercantile Exchange, 2,100 kg of silver ingot entered the treasury in a single day on Saturday 1 August 2026 (10 Mordad 1405), breaking the previous record. The earlier record was 2,000 kg, set on 23 May 2026 (2 Khordad 1405). The exchange described the higher volume as a reflection of improving liquidity and confidence in the trading mechanism of the silver deposit certificate market. The main advantage of the instrument is that an investor can hold silver exposure without the burden of transport, physical storage and security risk. The Iran Mercantile Exchange guarantees the authenticity and quality of ingots entering its treasury, which has been cited as a key factor behind the rising volume of deliveries.

Daily petrol consumption fell about 6 percent after the three tier pricing plan, and annual consumption growth reached zero

Data from the National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company, published in the early hours of Sunday, 2 August 2026 (11 Mordad 1405), show that average daily petrol consumption has fallen since the three tier pricing measure took effect in Azar 1404 (December 2025). Average consumption ran at 131 million litres a day from the start of the Iranian year 1404 to 22 Azar, and fell to 123.7 million litres a day between 22 Azar and 29 Esfand 1404, a decline of about 6 percent between the periods before and after implementation. A comparison with earlier years shows consumption growth coming to a halt. Over the same 22 Azar to 29 Esfand window, average consumption was about 109 million litres a day in 1401, rose 6 percent to 116 million litres in 1402 and a further 7 percent to 124 million litres in 1403, but stayed at that same 124 million litre level in 1404. The company noted that consumption rose on some days during the final 20 days of Esfand because of increased travel. According to the same report, the share of personal cards in daily refuelling rose from 57 percent before the plan to 74 percent, while the share of stations' open access cards fell from 43 percent to 26 percent. The volume of quota allocated to fuel cards fell from 172 million litres a day before the measure to 165 million, and then to 135 million litres a day after the second phase of the reform; the stated policy target is to bring that figure to 115 million litres a day. The three tier structure consists of a first quota at 1,500 tomans, a second quota at 3,000 tomans and a third rate at 5,000 tomans per litre.
