Aug 1, 2026
The results of the eighth auction of government Islamic securities were announced on 6 Mordad 1405 (28 July 2026). According to a report published on Saturday 1 August 2026, of the roughly 48,000 billion tomans of securities offered, only 8,870 billion tomans were sold, equivalent to about 18 percent of the total offering.
No bank took part in the auction and no purchase orders were registered from banks. Financial institutions and capital market firms bought 1,370 billion tomans of Arad 296 and 7,500 billion tomans of Arad 297. The securities offered comprised Arad 283, Arad 286, Arad 296 and Arad 297, with yields reported respectively as not announced, 39.9 percent, between 39.58 and 39.8 percent, and between 39.43 and 39.7 percent.
The total value of securities sold across the eight auctions held since the start of the 1405 year has been calculated at 143,590 billion tomans. Banks, non bank credit institutions and financial institutions are the main buyers of these securities, and the low yields on the securities offered, alongside expectations of a rise in bank deposit rates, have been cited as factors behind the weak appetite among buyers.

Aref says the government is ready to hand part of its market authority to the trade guilds
Mohammad Reza Aref, Iran's First Vice President, told managers of the Tehran Chamber of Guilds that the government is ready to hand its market powers over to the trade unions and guilds, and that much of the work, including market supervision, should be done with the guilds themselves taking part. The remarks were published on Saturday 1 August 2026. He said that if the unions recover their proper standing they can play a more effective role in dealing with violations, in regulating the market and even in setting guild taxes, which would reduce the need for broad intervention by supervisory bodies. Aref said the government is ready to form joint working groups on the guilds' problems, including tax matters, and that tax should be levied in proportion to each business's production conditions and income while tax evasion is pursued. He described the government's strategy over the past two years as securing people's livelihoods, creating relative stability in the market and taming inflation, and said the same approach will continue over the next two years. He also called for firm action against overpricing, hoarding and short weighting, with the guilds alongside the government.

Bank Melli Iran has put in place a package of measures, approved by its board, to make up for the effects of the outage in its banking systems between 23 Khordad and 23 Tir 1405 (13 June to 14 July 2026).
