Global Backdrop: Oil at Its Lowest Level Since the Conflict Began
The defining story of the week in global markets was the unwinding of the war risk premium from oil prices. Brent crude traded at $74.43/bbl on the morning of Friday, 5 Tir 1405 (down 1.11%; source: Trading Economics), reaching its lowest level since the start of the conflict and having nearly erased all the price gains driven by the Strait of Hormuz disruption. WTI crude was around ~$71/bbl (source: Barchart, 5 Tir 1405).
The decline follows implementation progress on the "Islamabad Memorandum," a 14-point peace framework signed by the Iranian and American presidents on 27 Khordad 1405 (17 June 2026). The agreement established a 60-day ceasefire, terms for reopening the Strait of Hormuz, and the start of nuclear and sanctions negotiations (source: CNN, 3 Tir 1405). According to the International Energy Agency (IEA Oil Market Report, Khordad 1405), tanker traffic through the Strait of Hormuz has recovered from a low of approximately 9.6 million barrels per day in Ordibehesht 1405 (May 2026) to around 12 mb/d. Saudi Arabian tankers are also heading toward the Ras Tanura export terminal for the first time since March.
IEA analysts caution that a full supply recovery will not be immediate: mine-clearing operations in the main shipping lanes and normalization of supply chains are expected to take several months (source: IEA Oil Market Report, Khordad 1405).
Global gold (XAU/USD): Spot gold traded at $4,007/oz on the morning of Friday, 5 Tir 1405, around $27 lower than Thursday's close of $4,034/oz. A relatively weaker US dollar and easing Treasury yields provided partial support. Gold remains well below its all-time high of $5,602/oz reached in Dey 1404 (January 2026; source: LiteFinance, 5 Tir 1405).
US equity markets (Thursday, 4 Tir 1405): The S&P 500 closed at 7,358 (-0.10%) and the Nasdaq at 25,477 (-0.43%). The DXY US dollar index was at 101.68 (+0.06%; source: Yahoo Finance, 5 Tir 1405).
Currency: Domestic Markets Closed
Iran's official currency exchange and authorised money changers do not operate on Fridays. The official "agreed" (toafoghi) rate from Iran's Currency and Gold Exchange Center was unavailable for Friday, 5 Tir 1405.
The closest publicly observable proxy on a Friday is the Tether (USDT) rate on domestic crypto exchanges, which broadly tracks the free-market dollar. Nobitex showed USDT at 164,517 tomans on the morning of 5 Tir 1405 (source: Nobitex, 5 Tir 1405). This is an indicative figure only and is not equivalent to an official or authorised exchange rate.
Iran's domestic currency markets have experienced two competing forces over the past week: a decline in the risk premium linked to peace-deal progress, offset by global dollar and gold fluctuations. Overall, domestic safe-haven asset prices have moved meaningfully lower from their peak levels during the height of the conflict.

(Sources: Didban Iran, Vana News, Shargh Daily; Thursday, 4 Tir 1405 / 25 June 2026)
18-karat gold has declined from 17,590,000 tomans/gram on Saturday, 23 Khordad 1405 (source: Eghtesad Online) to 16,252,000 tomans/gram on 4 Tir: a drop of roughly 7.6% in under three weeks. This decline is attributed primarily to the fading domestic risk premium following the peace-deal signing, as global spot gold was broadly stable over the same period (sources: Eghtesad News, Tejarat News, Tir 1405).
Crypto: Bitcoin Below $60,000
Crypto markets faced selling pressure throughout the week. Bitcoin (BTC) fell to approximately $59,442 by Thursday, 4 Tir 1405, reaching its lowest level since 2024. Ethereum (ETH) was near $1,563 (source: Yahoo Finance, 4 Tir 1405 / 25 June 2026). The main factors cited include: outflows from Bitcoin spot ETFs, the potential delay of the CLARITY Act in the US Congress, and capital rotation toward artificial-intelligence equities.
Tether (USDT) at Nobitex: 164,517 tomans (morning of 5 Tir 1405; source: Nobitex). This is down from a high of 189,877 tomans in Ordibehesht 1405 (May 2026), reflecting the combined effect of easing domestic FX rates, lower global gold, and crypto-market weakness.
Tehran Stocks, Steel, Cars, Building Materials
The Tehran Stock Exchange, Iran Mercantile Exchange (IME), and physical markets for these asset classes do not operate on Thursdays and Fridays. The last trading session of the week was Wednesday, 3 Tir 1405 (24 June 2026). A full recap covering the TSE, steel, vehicles, and building materials will be provided in the Saturday, 6 Tir morning note.
What to Watch
- Peace-deal implementation news: Any report on the progress or disruption of mine-clearing operations in the Strait of Hormuz and the resumption of Gulf crude exports can move global oil prices and, through the FX channel, Iran's domestic market on Saturday.
- FX and gold rates at Saturday's open (6 Tir): The first domestic market signal of the new week after any weekend developments.
- TSE opening on Saturday, 6 Tir: The first equity session of the week; potential reaction to the week's decline in oil and any FX moves.
- IME offerings early in the week: Especially steel and cement, where energy-cost and FX shifts have been key drivers.
The above are observations to monitor, not trading recommendations.
