But the market's mood shifted through the morning: per Eghtesad Online, by 11:04am, 194 symbols were posting positive returns against 143 negative ones, an improvement in market breadth from the opening dip. TEDPIX's final close for today's session (ending 12:30pm) was not yet known at publication. Parallel markets also moved: the free market dollar reached 175,700 tomans, and Bitcoin held relatively steady near $63,000 following Strategy's disclosure of a record $216 million bitcoin sale.

Currency

The free market dollar opened this morning, Tuesday, 16 Tir, near 175,700 tomans and was reported near 175,395 tomans in recent trades (per TGJU and Fararu). The free market euro was last recorded Monday, 15 Tir, at 200,050 tomans, down about 0.4% from the prior day (per Sharq). On the other side, the official "agreed" (tavafoghi) rate for dollar transfers at Iran's Currency and Gold Exchange Center was last set on Wednesday, 10 Tir, at 147,664 tomans to sell, and has not been updated since; the gap to the free rate has widened to about 28,000 tomans, or nearly 19%. Central Bank Governor Abdolnasser Hemati earlier said the bank had added $4.5 billion to foreign currency reserves during the recent period of tension and that there would be no return to a preferential rate (per EcoIran).

Gold and Coin

18 karat gold opened at 17,737,000 tomans per gram this morning, Tuesday, 16 Tir, with the mesghal near 79,173,000 tomans, little changed from the prior session (per Donya-e-Eqtesad and Fararu). The Emami coin was priced near 179 million tomans, the half coin near 92 million tomans, and the quarter coin near 52 million tomans. The Emami coin's premium over its gold content, which had exceeded 7 million tomans in recent days, has held in that range, a sign of speculative demand beyond gold's intrinsic value. Globally, spot gold traded somewhat softer than last week, in a $4,130 to $4,180 range, with markets awaiting the Federal Reserve's June meeting minutes cited as a factor in the relative calm.

Stocks

The last trading session before the three day closure, Wednesday, 10 Tir, ended with TEDPIX up 1.16% to 5,187,258 points, alongside about 1.8 trillion tomans in net real money inflow, with roughly 66% concentrated in the electricity group. At today's reopening, TEDPIX stood near 5,136,423 points, down about 1%. But the market's tone shifted through the morning: by 11:04am, 194 symbols were posting positive returns (4 up more than 4%, 168 up 2 to 4%) against 143 negative, a sign of improving breadth from the opening dip (per Eghtesad Online). Today's final index close, trading value, and the precise direction of real versus institutional money flow were not yet published as of this session's end (12:30pm). The Securities and Exchange Organization confirmed that options contracts whose maturity fell within the closure window (13 to 15 Tir) will be settled or extended starting today, under a note to Article 12 of the options trading directive.

Crypto

Bitcoin traded near $63,140 today, little changed (per Fortune and Yahoo Finance trackers). The level follows the market's continued digestion of Strategy's disclosure that it sold 3,588 bitcoin for $216 million between 8 and 14 Tir, the company's largest single disposal since its founding, which brought its holdings to 843,775 bitcoin, without a major follow-on price reaction in the days since (per CoinDesk). Ethereum held near $1,771. Tether traded at 164,899 tomans on the Nobitex exchange today, about 10,500 tomans (nearly 6%) below the free market dollar, a wider gap than seen in recent days that may reflect a liquidity difference between the domestic crypto market and free currency exchanges.

Iron and Steel

Rebar prices ranged between 57,000 and 72,090 tomans per kilogram over the past week, depending on size and mill; Ariyan Steel's size 10 ribbed rebar reached 64,128 tomans, 1,000 tomans above the prior day (per Taadol). The iron and steel market continues to be described as "calm, with only minor changes." I beams traded between 13.6 and 44.5 million tomans per piece, and black sheet between 37,000 and 44,000 tomans per kilogram. The free market dollar's recent gains continue to be cited as the main driver of steel input costs.

Cars

In the free market, the Tara Automatic V4 jumped 195 million tomans to about 2.72 billion tomans, and the Shahin Automatic Plus rose 23 million tomans to 2.565 billion tomans (per Tejaratnews and Rokna). The Dena Plus Automatic was priced near 2.69 billion tomans and the Peugeot 207 Automatic Panorama near 2.63 billion tomans. On the policy front, the Competition Council approved only about 30% of automakers' requested 67% price increase; a deputy head of parliament's Industries Commission called the hike "inappropriate under the country's current conditions." Market analysts say the recent factory price increase has mainly narrowed the gap between factory and free market prices rather than pushing free market prices higher.

Building Materials

The secretary general of Iran's cement industry association said power cuts at some plants have reached up to 90% this summer; some units' power quota fell from 8 megawatts in Ordibehesht to 2 megawatts, and gas has been cut to more than 50 cement plants, a situation industry experts call a risk to coming months' output (per Aftabnews, Rouydad24, and Donya-e-Eqtesad). Even so, wholesale type 2 cement prices remain described as stable: about 253,000 tomans for Tehran and Saveh plants, 255,000 tomans for Abyek, and 281,000 tomans for Sufian. On the Iran Mercantile Exchange, the cement hall traded 884,523 tons worth nearly 2.9 trillion tomans in the week ending 5 Tir, one of the exchange's highest volume halls that week.

Regional and Global Backdrop

Brent crude traded near $71 to $72 today and West Texas Intermediate between $67.8 and $69.2 a barrel; OPEC+ confirmed on 5 Tir a third straight monthly increase of 188,000 barrels a day in August output, a decision that has weighed on prices. The US Dollar Index (DXY) held near 100.9, close to a three week low, with markets still awaiting the Federal Reserve's June meeting minutes for policy signals. In global equities, the S&P 500 rose 0.72% to 7,537 points and the Nasdaq gained 1.12% to 26,121 points overnight, with the Dow Jones setting a fresh record, a sign of continued risk appetite in global markets. Regionally, Turkey's annual inflation eased to 32.11% in June, and the lira stood above 46 to the dollar, the same rate that prices Iran's trade and tourism corridor with Turkey. The Iraqi dinar traded near 1,311 at the bank window, with Iraq's dollar auction liquidity remaining one of the channels supplying dollars to Iran's border trade. The Russian ruble held near 77.3 to the dollar, a rate that bears on Iran-Russia energy cooperation and shared OPEC+ pricing exposure; the UAE dirham stayed at its fixed rate near 3.6725, with the Dubai corridor remaining one of the main channels for Iran's trade and currency transfers.

What to Watch Today

The main focus today is TEDPIX's final close at 12:30pm and whether the morning's improving breadth holds. Also worth watching: the final resolution of options contracts that matured during the closure window, how petrochemical and refining symbols react to OPEC+ developments, and any delayed Codal disclosures that may be published. On the global calendar, the Federal Reserve's June meeting minutes and the US June consumer inflation report on 23 Tir (July 14) are on global markets' agenda.
