Bill making Thursdays an official holiday returns to parliament's floor after ambiguities resolved
2 September 2026 | 2 months ago
Ali Jafari Azar, deputy head of parliament's Social Commission, said on Tuesday, September 1, 2026 (10 Shahrivar 1405) that an amendment to Article 87 of the Civil Services Management Law, which has moved back and forth between parliament, the Guardian Council and the Expediency Council for nearly two years, was reviewed by the commission that day, had its ambiguities resolved, and will now return to the floor for a vote.
According to Ecoiran, under the new amendment weekly working hours at government bodies covered by the law would drop from 44 to 42.5 hours, and the government would be authorized to schedule working hours for non operational units across five days, Saturday through Wednesday, which would effectively make Thursdays a holiday. Operational, emergency and relief services such as emergency rooms, customs, water, electricity, gas utilities and banks are exempted.
