Tehran's currency and gold markets continued trading on Wednesday, September 16, 2026 (25 Shahrivar 1405) with participants watching for the US Federal Reserve's interest rate decision, due in the coming hours. According to EcoIran, the free market dollar fell 1,000 tomans (about 0.43 percent) from the previous day to 230,000 tomans, and the euro dropped 1,000 tomans to 265,000 tomans; by contrast, the NIMA transfer dollar rose 495 tomans to 165,383 tomans, and tether fell 400 tomans. Meanwhile global gold rose about 1.6 percent to around $4,350 an ounce; Trading Economics put the figure at $4,341.51, up 1.15 percent from the previous day. Iran's domestic gold and coin prices moved in the same direction: the Emami coin gained 2.2 million tomans to reach 233.2 million tomans, and 18 karat gold rose 314,000 tomans per gram to 23,489,000 tomans. EcoIran said the market was simultaneously affected by tension in the Strait of Hormuz and remarks by the US vice president about the Iran-US war entering a new phase, without receiving a one-directional signal.
