Hemmati orders serious action on currency policy for industry at Majlis industries committee meeting

27 July 2026 | 3 months ago

Abdolnaser Hemmati, governor of the Central Bank of Iran, ordered serious measures in the area of foreign-currency policy, in particular to ease matters for producers, industrialists and economic operators, at a meeting on Monday, 27 July 2026 (5 Mordad 1405) with members of the Majlis Industries and Mines Committee. The meeting was held at the central bank, and according to Reza Alizadeh, who chairs the committee, the main topic was how to supply the foreign currency needed by production and industry.

After the meeting Hemmati said that despite sanctions and restrictions on currency transfers, the central bank had taken substantial steps to supply currency for medicine and basic goods and had not neglected support for industry. He added that a number of industries had been damaged by attacks while others faced shortages of raw materials, and that the central bank was seeking to provide the necessary credit for them. He said members of parliament had called for greater latitude in supplying currency to exporters and to importers bringing in goods designated by the Industry Ministry.

Easing the restrictions tied to the fulfilment of foreign-currency obligations was another request from committee members at the meeting. On the same day, Iran's General Inspection Organization said 225 individuals each have unfulfilled foreign-currency obligations of more than 50 million euros. Currency supply for production is one of the variables that bears on the exchange-rate market and on input costs at listed industrial companies.
