Iran's Energy Ministry Reports Electricity Capacity Certificate Trades; Available Supply Is Below Registered Demand

Iran's Energy Ministry said in a report carried by Mehr on Wednesday 14 October 2026 (22 Mehr 1405) that 1,714 electricity capacity certificate trades worth 123,665 billion rials had taken place on the Energy Exchange by that date. The highest price traded so far was about 106 million rials per kilowatt.
According to the ministry, as of 14 October 2026, 486 customers with demand exceeding 5 megawatts had been registered to purchase 5,729 megawatts of capacity certificates, while 1,696 megawatts were available on the supply side. These are registered demand and available supply, not necessarily concluded transactions.
In Shahrivar 1405, there were 125 trades totalling 82 megawatts and worth 7,312 billion rials. Prices that month ranged from 88 million to 93 million rials per kilowatt. Capacity certificates are an instrument to secure rights to new electricity connections for large consumers; the gap between registered demand and available supply may affect industrial access costs but does not predetermine future trade prices.
