Amid a heatwave and war-related damage to infrastructure, Iran's Energy Ministry asked consumers to cut their electricity use by at least 10 percent. According to the ministry, power demand is expected to exceed 75,500 megawatts in the coming days.
It urged households to set air conditioners to 25 degrees Celsius, switch off unnecessary appliances and shift heavy usage away from peak hours. Average temperatures between 14 and 18 July 2026 were forecast at around 41 degrees Celsius.
Mohammad Allah-Dad, chief executive of the state power company Tavanir, said parts of the country's critical electricity infrastructure had been seriously damaged and that grid capacity had fallen by about 4,200 megawatts.
