According to Khabar Online, citing the Mehr news agency and Al Jazeera, a US State Department official said on Wednesday, 14 Mordad 1405 (5 August 2026), that the latest round of Lebanon Israel talks in Rome ended early that day due to developments on the ground. The US official told Al Jazeera that talks between Lebanon and Israel had been constructive and some progress had been made, and that the negotiations would resume on Thursday. The remarks came as the Israeli military said in a statement that it had begun strikes on southern Lebanon, alleging a ceasefire violation by Lebanon's Hezbollah.
