Oil Minister: Diesel Imports Halted Since Mid Last Year as Domestic Output Rises
18 September 2026 · 21 days ago
Iranian Oil Minister Mohsen Paknejad said on Thursday, September 18, 2026 (27 Shahrivar 1405), that with a considerable increase in diesel output at the country's refineries, Iran, which had been importing the fuel until the middle of last year, has not imported diesel for some time. According to Ecoiran, citing ISNA, he added that part of the rise in diesel production stems from higher crude oil feedstock delivered to refineries, and part from changes in their processing methods.

Paknejad also said the Persian Gulf Star Mehr refinery is expected to come fully online by the end of the current Iranian year (late March 2027), which he said would meaningfully help supply gasoline, diesel and other fuels the country needs.
