Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Tuesday, 4 August 2026 (13 Mordad 1405), denied reports that he had submitted his resignation. In a televised speech, excerpts of which were published by the official IRNA news agency, he said: "If I were going to resign, I would announce it publicly. I will not resign, and I will continue the struggle."
Pezeshkian also denied claims of disagreements between himself, the Supreme Leader and the armed forces, stressing that "we are working in full harmony." He said everyone knows that if any disagreement arises, the armed forces would stand with the leadership.
The remarks come as Iran has been in military confrontation with the United States since February. The two sides reached a ceasefire in April and signed a Pakistan mediated memorandum of understanding in June, but that understanding collapsed last month, and after nearly two weeks of exchanged attacks US President Donald Trump halted the bombardment. Political stability in Tehran is one of the variables shaping expectations in Iran's currency and gold markets.
