Selling Pressure Erases Tehran Bourse's New Record; Index Retreats to Flat in Saturday's Session

16 August 2026 | 2 months ago

Tehran Stock Exchange's main index touched a fresh record of 5,771,000 points, up 35,000, in the opening minutes of Saturday's session, 24 Mordad 1405 (August 15, 2026), but gave back the gain as sellers increased supply through the session, retreating to around 5,737,000, near flat on the day. According to Donya-e-Eqtesad, the equal weighted index followed a similar pattern, and combined equity trading value passed 25,000 billion tomans by the middle of the session.

Per the same report, as the indexes pulled back, retail investors withdrew more than 2,400 billion tomans from the stock market, while fixed income funds simultaneously recorded outflows too, so where the money went was not yet clear. Donya-e-Eqtesad said the swing came after the main index had set a string of records in recent weeks, with the market's total valuation at historic highs.
