Tavanir Explains Cause of Soaring Household Power Bills: Shifts Between Tiered Tariff Brackets
9 August 2026 | 2 months ago
Abdolamir Yaghouti, director general of Tavanir's energy management and customer planning office, told ISNA on Sunday, August 9, 2026 that even a small rise in electricity use can push a household into a higher bracket of Iran's tiered tariff system, which he identified as the main driver behind the sharp jump some households have seen in their bills. He said that if only tariff changes were considered, assuming consumption similar to last year, bills should not have risen more than 40 percent, but the rate gap between the cheapest and most expensive tiers of the household tariff is about 34 to 35 times. Around 75 percent of subscribers fall in the lowest bracket, billed at 0.15 times the cost of electricity supply.
