Tehran Dollar Slips to 185,900 Tomans as Gold and Coin Move the Other Way
8 August 2026 | 2 months ago
Data tracked by Sahmino show the US dollar in Tehran's market fell 1.14 percent (2,120 tomans) to 185,900 tomans on the evening of Saturday, August 8, 2026 (17 Mordad 1405). According to Ecoiran, news that Iran, Oman and the United States were nearing a deal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz was seen as significant for Tehran's currency market, pushing the dollar, tether and the UAE dirham lower. Gold and coin prices did not follow the same path: the Emami gold coin rose 0.81 percent to 186,525,000 tomans, and its premium over intrinsic value jumped about 32 percent to 3,553,000 tomans. Ecoiran attributed the divergence to a rise in the global gold price, which pushed the coin and gold market's intrinsic value above its trading price.
