US reinforces F-16 and F-35 deployment to the region amid Iran war, drawing jets from European bases

The Pentagon on Monday, July 20, 2026, was reinforcing the US air presence in the region amid the intensifying war with Iran. According to reports, F-16 fighters from Spangdahlem Air Base in Germany and stealth F-35 fighters from RAF Lakenheath in the United Kingdom are being sent to the region. The deployments add to the largest US air and naval buildup in the region in years, which includes the aircraft carrier USS Gerald R. Ford and dozens of combat aircraft.
The reinforcement signals rising escalation and matters to Iran's markets through the war-risk premium on oil, gold, and the currency: as the odds of a wider conflict rise, pressure builds on global oil prices and safe-haven demand for gold.
