Iran's agriculture ministry says red meat imports from Brazil have stopped, with Pakistan the main replacement

Rouhollah Zahmatkesh, deputy for livestock production at Iran's Ministry of Agriculture Jihad, said on Saturday 1 August 2026, on the sidelines of the second specialised livestock, poultry and dairy industries exhibition at the Shahr-e Aftab site in Tehran, that Iran is currently not importing meat from Brazil and that neighbouring and regional countries will be the first choice of supply where imports are needed.
He said red meat imports from Pakistan are continuing without difficulty, describing it as one of the region's centres of large livestock production, and noted that quarantine, slaughter and import infrastructure has been built in Sistan and Baluchestan province. He added that supply is not limited to Pakistan and that capacity in countries to Iran's north can be brought in if required.
According to Eghtesad Online, concern over microbial load in some Brazilian shipments, alongside reduced buying by other customers of that market, lies behind the shift in sourcing. Zahmatkesh put Iranian red meat consumption at about 11 kilograms per person and said he was satisfied with domestic production this year thanks to favourable rainfall.

The two sides also agreed to explore wider cooperation on natural gas, nuclear energy and critical minerals including lithium and copper. Seoul has described the agreement as part of a broader effort to reduce the geopolitical risk of its heavy dependence on West Asian crude.

Rosatom cargo ship sinks in the Black Sea after a Ukrainian drone attack, with all 17 crew rescued
Alexei Likhachev, head of Russia's state corporation Rosatom, said on Saturday, 1 August 2026 (10 Mordad 1405), that two Ukrainian drones attacked a civilian vessel belonging to the company in the Black Sea in the early hours of that day and that the ship sank after the damage it sustained. He said the vessel was carrying goods including frozen food and construction materials, and that all 17 crew members survived. Likhachev described the action as "piracy". Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed the attack in a message on X, saying Ukrainian defence forces had hit a Russian container ship named Yanina, sailing under the Russian flag, which he said had a capacity of more than 100,000 tonnes. He claimed the vessel was under sanctions. In recent weeks Russia and Ukraine have both stepped up attacks on ships each side says are aiding the other's war effort, turning the Black Sea into one of the main arenas of the confrontation.

Russia extends its gasoline and diesel export ban to 31 January 2027
The Russian government said in a statement on Thursday, 30 July 2026 (8 Mordad 1405), that it has extended its ban on gasoline and diesel exports until 31 January 2027 (11 Dey 1405). The diesel ban had originally covered 8 to 31 July 2026 (17 Tir to 9 Mordad 1405), and the new scope also takes in marine fuel and gasoil. Under the decision, producers will be exempt from the diesel, marine fuel and gasoil restrictions from 1 September 2026 (10 Shahrivar 1405), while some fuel exports will continue under intergovernmental agreements and as humanitarian aid. The government also adopted a temporary procedure running to 1 November 2026 (10 Aban 1405) to secure fuel for farmers during the harvest season, plus a separate measure on stable motor fuel supply for provincial and local bodies. Repeated Ukrainian drone attacks on Russian refineries over recent months have caused fuel shortages and price increases in the country's domestic market.

Iran Mercantile Exchange floors offered 354,000 tonnes of products on Saturday 1 August
The Iran Mercantile Exchange said its trading floors offered 354,467 tonnes of products on Saturday 1 August 2026 (10 Mordad 1405), the first trading day of the Iranian week. The largest share, 221,865 tonnes, went to the Kish export hall, comprising 122,250 tonnes of cement, 75,000 tonnes of clinker, 15,000 tonnes of steel billet and bloom, 9,565 tonnes of bitumen and 50 tonnes of moisture insulation. The industrial hall listed 112,626 tonnes of steel sections. The petrochemical and oil products hall offered 13,824 tonnes, including 12,250 tonnes of chemicals, 1,024 tonnes of polymers and 550 tonnes of bitumen, while the side hall offered 6,152 tonnes of polymers, chemicals, scrap and steel.
