Tehran's TEDPIX (main stock index) rose 2.03% (up 129,581 points) on Saturday, August 29, 2026, to a record 6,516,000 points, its sixth straight gaining session, up nearly 7.5% since August 22. Trading value hit about 41.8 trillion tomans and 224 stocks gained more than 2%, as the dollar and gold pulled back this week.

Suddenly, everything changed. Tehran's benchmark TEDPIX index (شاخص کل, "Total Index") jumped 2.03% on Saturday, August 29, 2026 (7 Shahrivar 1405), equal to 129,581 points, to a fresh all-time record of 6,516,157 points. That tops the previous record of 6,386,577 points set last Wednesday, August 26 (4 Shahrivar). Trading value on the Tehran Stock Exchange (TSE) hit roughly 41.8 trillion tomans today (tomans are Iran's everyday currency unit, equal to 10 rials), and according to Sahmino's own trading data, 224 of the 1,652 stocks it tracks gained more than 2%, a sign that money that had sat on the sidelines for weeks is now moving into Iran's "glass hall," as the Tehran bourse floor is nicknamed.

Background

Today's gain is the fifth straight up session in Sahmino's trading records. TEDPIX rose from 6,061,547 on Saturday, August 22 (31 Mordad 1405), to 6,069,888 on Sunday (1 Shahrivar), 6,099,883 on Monday (2 Shahrivar), 6,223,878 on Tuesday (3 Shahrivar), and 6,386,577 on Wednesday, August 26 (4 Shahrivar, the last session of the prior trading week), before reaching 6,516,157 today, Saturday, August 29, a nearly 7.5% gain across these six trading sessions. Farabourse's own index (IFX, Iran's over-the-counter board) tracked the same trend, rising from 48,708 to 51,363 points over the same window, about 5.5%.

The rally comes alongside relative calm in parallel markets. Sahmino reported that on Tuesday, August 25 (3 Shahrivar), Tehran's free-market dollar retreated from a record of about 204,000 tomans back to the 200,000-toman range, and on the night of Friday, August 28 (6 Shahrivar), global gold fell 3.08% to $4,458.89 an ounce after hawkish remarks from US Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh at the Jackson Hole symposium. For investors weary of dollar and gold volatility in recent months, that combination may help explain why liquidity this week has chosen the stock exchange over the currency and gold markets.

Today's Numbers

Trading-floor data shows today's inflow was broad, not confined to a handful of stocks. Among the most heavily traded names, Shepna (Isfahan Oil Refining, +2.95%, 1,124 billion tomans in turnover) and Vbmelt (Bank Mellat, +2.96%, 992 billion tomans) led the turnover table. Shabandar (Bandar Abbas Oil Refining, +2.93%, 939 billion tomans), Khodro (Iran Khodro automaker, +2.8%, 922 billion tomans), Vamaadan (a metal-ore mining holding, +2.97%, 553 billion tomans) and Fooladd (Mobarakeh Steel, +2.97%, 460 billion tomans) also ranked among today's most-traded TSE stocks.

Looking at retail versus institutional buying sharpens the picture of where the money came from: in Kachad (Chadormalu Mining, +2.97%), net retail buying reached 43.5% of trading value, and in Shepdis (Razi Petrochemical, +2.93%) it reached 32.1%, meaning retail (individual) investors drove most of the demand in these two names. Retail buying also dominated in Vbmelt (26.6%) and Fooladd (16.4%). But in Khodro (net minus 9.4%), Tamin Social Security Investment (Shasta, minus 17.2%) and Shabandar (minus 14.9%), institutions were the net buyers, absorbing shares that retail investors were selling. Market-wide, retail investors bought more than 5.5 billion shares net today. That makes it the fourth session, out of those for which Sahmino has recorded trade-level data (31 Mordad, 2 and 3 Shahrivar, and today), where market-wide net retail flow was positive.

Drivers

Three forces appear to be feeding this rally at once. First, relative calm in the dollar and gold markets has redirected some of the liquidity that had been circulating in those parallel markets toward the bourse. Second, a self-reinforcing effect from a five-session winning streak: when the index keeps rising session after session, investors who had stayed on the sidelines start buying out of fear of missing out. Third, the rally's breadth, more than 224 stocks in a single session, shows the money is not concentrated in a few large caps but flowing broadly across banking, oil refining, automotive and base metals.

Outlook

This section is analytical framing, not a factual claim. Donya-e-Eqtesad, a leading Iranian economic daily, wrote on Monday, August 24, 2026 (2 Shahrivar), that after a fast five-month rally with gains exceeding 70% in a significant share of stocks, the market is showing "signs of slowing momentum," and that sustaining the rally will require fresh catalysts and new liquidity rather than reliance on Shahrivar's historically positive seasonal pattern. The divergent retail-institutional behavior in large caps like Khodro and Shasta, where institutions bought while retail sold, suggests the inflow is not yet uniform: some retail investors are taking profits in certain large caps even as fresh retail money continues entering others.

Bottom Line

Tehran's TEDPIX rose 2.03% today to a record 6,516,157 points, its fifth consecutive gaining session, adding more than 7.5% in total. The main driver was a combination of calm in the currency and gold markets and broad, not narrowly concentrated, retail buying across more than 224 stocks. One caveat worth remembering: within this same rally, some retail investors are selling to institutions in larger names like Khodro and Shasta, meaning this liquidity storm is not yet uniform across the board.

What to Watch

In coming sessions, watch whether TSE trading value holds above 40 trillion tomans or pulls back with the first down day for the index. The retail-to-institutional buying ratio in large caps like Khodro and Shasta is also worth tracking, as a signal of whether institutions keep absorbing retail supply. In the currency and gold markets, watch whether the recent calm in the dollar and global gold holds, or whether these markets regain their pull on restless liquidity. Sahmino's market calendar tracks the week's scheduled events.

For now, one thing is clear: the glass hall is alive again, all eyes are on the boards, and money, quietly but quickly, is choosing its next destination.
