According to the ISNA news agency, Gholamreza Nouri, minister of agriculture, said on Thursday 30 July 2026, setting out the results of a joint meeting with members of parliament's planning, budget and audit commission, that guaranteed wheat purchases have passed 7 million tonnes. He said the meeting reviewed food security, the state of water and soil, the supply of pesticides and fertiliser, and payments owed to wheat growers, and that following the president's instruction to speed up payments to farmers, disbursements are proceeding quickly.
On the rise in the price of essential goods, Nouri said part of the increase relates to structural reform of subsidy payments and the shift of the subsidy from the start of the supply chain to the electronic food coupon, and part to war conditions and higher international transport costs. He stressed that no essential good is being supplied outside market-regulation rules, and that oversight by the agriculture ministry, the industry ministry and the Government Penal Organization continues rigorously.
The minister also warned of a gap in capital formation in the agriculture sector, saying the rate of capital formation there is about half the sector's real share of the economy. He asked parliament to make up this long-standing shortfall by strengthening development credits, particularly for water and soil.
