Amazon raises its 2026 capital spending plan to $220 billion, citing higher memory prices

Amazon chief executive Andy Jassy told investors on a conference call on Thursday, 30 July 2026, that the company's capital expenditure will reach $220 billion in 2026. Amazon had put the figure at $200 billion in February 2026 and held it steady in April. According to CNBC, Jassy attributed the increase to rising memory prices.
Amazon's second-quarter revenue was $200.61 billion, against the $196.47 billion estimated by analysts polled by LSEG. Revenue at its cloud arm, Amazon Web Services, rose 37 percent year on year to $42.2 billion, the unit's fastest growth since 2021. Capital expenditure in the quarter alone reached $54.2 billion, compared with $32.1 billion in the same quarter a year earlier.
Jassy said that even at that level the company would still not have enough capacity to meet all of its 2026 demand. The rising memory prices behind the decision are the same factor pushing up the cost of imported electronic components in other markets.
