According to a Shafaq News market survey, the US dollar edged higher in Erbil as trading opened on Tuesday, 4 August 2026, while the Al Kifah and Al Harithiya currency exchanges in Baghdad were closed for the Arbaeen holiday.
At some exchange shops in Baghdad, the dollar sold at 152,250 dinars per 100 dollars and was bought at 151,250 dinars. In Erbil the dollar sold for 152,900 dinars per 100 dollars and was bought for 152,750 dinars, above the 152,550 dinar selling price the agency reported for Erbil on Sunday, 2 August 2026.
The official exchange rate set by the Central Bank of Iraq remains 132,000 dinars per 100 dollars, meaning the gap between the parallel market and the official rate stays above 15 percent. The parallel market dinar rate matters for Iran's economy, because Iraq is Iran's largest non oil export market and part of the settlement of cross border trade between the two countries passes through this market.
