Axios reported on the evening of Thursday, 30 July 2026 (8 Mordad 1405), that US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer held a video call with Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng to prepare the Chinese president's September visit to the United States. The conversation lasted more than an hour.
Following the call, Bessent said in a statement that the United States expects Beijing to fully honour its commitments on rare earth elements and US agricultural products. According to him, the two sides also discussed establishing trade and investment delegations as a mechanism for reaching a more balanced economic relationship.
According to the same report, a source familiar with the talks said China has in recent months adopted policies that create new risks for American companies. The call took place as competition between the world's two largest economies in technology and trade enters a more sensitive phase. Rare earth elements and the course of US-China trade are among the variables affecting the global metals market and the dollar index.
