Iraqi Oil Ministry spokesman Salim al-Rikabi said on Saturday, August 8, 2026, that Kirkuk's oilfields currently produce 320,000 barrels per day, with a BP development project targeting peak output of 420,000 bpd, Shafaq News reported. The project includes rehabilitating and developing Kirkuk's fields, expanding Northern Gas Company facilities, building a 400 megawatt power plant, and eliminating continuous gas flaring by using produced gas as power station fuel. Al-Rikabi added that Iraq currently produces 2.7 million barrels of oil per day nationwide and exports between 1.5 and 1.7 million barrels daily, while talks with Iran to resume Iraqi oil exports through the Strait of Hormuz continue without an agreement yet in place.
