BYD's sales growth stalls in China, putting its 5.5 million vehicle target at risk
25 August 2026 · 2 months ago
According to Ecoiran, citing Fortune and published Tuesday, Shahrivar 3, 1405 (August 25, 2026), monthly sales at BYD, China's largest electric automaker, have nearly stalled in recent months, with domestic China sales down about 8 percent year on year in June. To reach its 2025 target of 5.5 million vehicles, BYD would need to average roughly 560,000 units a month for the rest of the year, above its all time monthly sales record of just under 515,000 units set last December.
Deutsche Bank has cut its BYD full year sales estimate to about 5 million vehicles, and Morgan Stanley to 5.3 million. Rivals including Geely, XPeng and Xiaomi have taken market share from BYD in China, after the company cut prices on some models by as much as 34 percent in late May.
