CENTCOM: Vessels Diverted Near Strait of Hormuz Rise to 55
10 August 2026 | 2 months ago
US Central Command (CENTCOM) said in a statement reported late Sunday, 18 Mordad 1405 (August 9, 2026), that it has diverted a total of 55 commercial vessels and disabled two ships in the Strait of Hormuz since resuming its naval blockade against Iran. The figure is up from the 53 diverted vessels CENTCOM reported on Saturday, 17 Mordad. According to Donya-e-Eqtesad, citing Tasnim, CENTCOM has been updating the vessel count from the strategic waterway on a near daily basis in recent days. The Strait of Hormuz, the main export route for Gulf oil including Iran's, has been the site of military tension between Iran and the United States for weeks, while Iran-Oman talks on a security framework for reopening the strait have yet to reach a final conclusion.
