Iran's Central Bank announced new measures on Tuesday, August 25, 2026 (3 Shahrivar 1405) to expand access to foreign banknotes through the official banking network. According to EcoIran, citing Tasnim, legal entities may now buy up to 5,000 dollars in banknotes at the negotiated rate at branches of Bank Mellat, Tejarat and Saderat, while individuals are permitted to buy up to 1,000 dollars in banknotes at the same branches.
The Central Bank said the move is meant to strengthen the supply of foreign currency, respond more directly to the needs of economic actors and deepen official banknote transactions, adding that the decision followed the build up of its foreign currency reserves since late last year. The bank said further foreign exchange market management measures would be announced later.
