Central Bank ruling: bounced cheques and overdue instalments paid within two weeks will not count in credit scoring
25 July 2026 | 3 months ago
In a resolution announced on Saturday, 25 July 2026, the High Council of the Central Bank of Iran ruled that a bounced cheque and overdue instalments on bank facilities will have no effect on a customer's credit scoring if they are paid within two weeks.
Credit scoring is the rating system for bank customers that determines individuals' and firms' access to loans, chequebooks and banking services. Under the previous practice, a recorded bounced cheque or a late instalment payment could lower a credit rating for a period. The new resolution creates a two-week remedy window.
The decision comes as liquidity pressure on firms has risen during the months of war and disruption to supply and export chains. For capital market participants, easing credit-scoring conditions could affect the flow of financing and the banking system's doubtful receivables.
