China's Central Bank Extends Gold-Buying Streak to 20 Months With 15-Tonne June Purchase
10 July 2026 | 3 months ago
According to data reported in early July 2026, China's central bank (PBOC) extended its gold-buying streak to a 20th consecutive month in June, adding roughly 15 tonnes (480,000 ounces) to its reserves, a marked acceleration from May's 320,000-ounce purchase. Per Kitco News, corroborated by Bloomberg and IndexBox reporting, China's official gold reserves reached 75.44 million ounces (about 2,346 tonnes) by the end of June, even as global gold prices fell 11.65 percent during the month. Analysts describe the purchases as part of Beijing's strategy to reduce reliance on dollar-denominated reserve assets.
