10 July 2026 | 3 months ago
China's crude oil imports from Iran more than halved in June, falling to about 654,000 barrels a day from the prior month, CNBC reported on July 6, 2026 (15 Tir 1405). China, normally Iran's largest oil customer and the destination for around 90 percent of its crude exports, has cut purchases since the war with Iran resumed in late February. Overall Chinese crude imports also fell 29 percent year on year in May to 7.82 million barrels a day, the lowest level since February 2018. The US Treasury had earlier sanctioned an independent Chinese teapot refinery for buying Iranian oil.
