Egypt's National Defence Council, chaired by President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, said on Sunday, October 18, 2026 (26 Mehr 1405), that Cairo is ready to provide "all necessary and possible support" to Saudi Arabia to defend its safety and stability, backing the kingdom's resources, territorial integrity and Islamic holy sites. The presidency added that diplomatic efforts toward de-escalation will be intensified. Al Jazeera reported that the stance follows attacks by Yemen's Houthis on Riyadh's international airport and on Saudi Aramco, and renewed fighting in Yemen after a truce collapsed. Saudi Arabia accuses Iran of encouraging the attacks, which Tehran denies. Analysts say Egypt is a natural partner for Riyadh because Suez Canal revenue depends on Red Sea shipping security.
