Feed Grain Clearance at Northern Ports Hinges on Unsettled Eurasian Union Quota

According to correspondence among Iran's Trade Promotion Organization, the Agriculture Ministry and the Union of Livestock and Poultry Feed Importers, reported by Mehr News Agency on Monday 19 October 2026 (27 Mehr 1405), settling the 1405 import quotas under the Iran-Eurasian Economic Union free-trade agreement still requires coordination among the responsible bodies, and has become an obstacle to clearing staple goods from northern ports.
In a letter, the importers' union noted that Iranian suppliers have preferential tariffs for importing about 1.5 million tonnes of barley and 3 million tonnes of wheat from member states, and asked for the matter to be settled quickly to avoid another rise in feed prices: applying a 4% import duty instead of 1% would raise feed prices, and clearance of cargoes stored at ports is halted and incurring demurrage. These are the union's requests and warnings, not a final government decision.
