The head of the smart fuel system at the National Iranian Oil Products Distribution Company said on Tuesday, 28 July 2026, that the time required to issue a fuel card has been reduced to one day, or 24 hours.
The fuel card is the instrument through which subsidised petrol quotas are allocated to vehicles, so the speed of issuance directly affects drivers' access to their quota.
The measure comes while petrol rationing and pricing remain an open file between the government and parliament. The second petrol quota priced at 3,000 tomans was recently cut from 70 litres to 50 litres, and the deputy speaker of parliament has said a petrol price increase is off the table at this stage.
