Global Airfares Seen Rising 5 to 10 Percent in 2026 on Regional War Energy Disruption

According to Iran's IRNA news agency, citing Russia's RIA Novosti, the analytics firm Economics Tourism said in a report that average global airfares in 2026, even under a relatively favorable scenario, could run 5 to 10 percent above levels forecast before the outbreak of the West Asia conflict. The report, published Thursday, August 20, 2026 (29 Mordad 1405), added that if the conflict and energy supply disruption continue, international flight prices could rise a further 10 percent in 2027.
The report said disruption to energy exports through the Strait of Hormuz has put significant pressure on oil and jet fuel prices, with jet fuel costs rising even faster than crude oil. Analysts said the added cost typically reaches ticket prices with a lag of several months; some airlines had cut summer ticket prices to stimulate demand.
