Head of Iran's tax administration says bloggers and artists earning above legal thresholds will be taxed
5 August 2026 | 3 months ago
Mohammad Hadi Sobhanian, head of Iran's tax administration, said in response to a question about taxing online content creators that anyone earning income in the country is subject to tax. His remarks were published on Wednesday 5 August 2026 (14 Mordad 1405).
He said bloggers and artists whose income exceeds the thresholds set for the arts sector become liable for tax, and that the administration will collect it.
Sobhanian also referred to taxes on luxury assets, saying the levy on luxury cars and high value homes is one of the tax bases approved by parliament in annual budget laws and already in force, with parliament setting the threshold for what counts as high value. He added that the law remains in place this year, that the administration assesses tax based on information received from the relevant authorities, and that taxpayers may file objections. The remarks were credited to the Tasnim news agency.
