Hashdex to close the first US bitcoin ETF to shut down, as June redemptions topped $4 billion

Crypto asset manager Hashdex said it will close its bitcoin exchange traded fund in the United States and liquidate its holdings. The news, published on Wednesday 5 August 2026 (14 Mordad 1405), marks the first US bitcoin ETF to wind down since regulators approved about 12 such funds in early 2024.
Hashdex cited concerns over the fund's liquidity and its operating costs as the main reasons for the decision. Inflows into bitcoin funds have fallen sharply in recent months as investors shifted toward technology stocks with higher returns and toward event prediction platforms.
According to the report, bitcoin funds have seen net outflows over the past three months, and in June 2026 alone redemptions exceeded $4 billion. The wider crypto market fell 36% in July.
