Lebanon's Hezbollah, in a statement published on Thursday, August 20, 2026 (29 Mordad 1405), condemned new US Treasury sanctions targeting the group's cash network, calling them a continuation of Washington's hostile policies to weaken the resistance and destabilize Lebanon. According to Donya-e-Eqtesad, Hezbollah said in the statement that it takes pride in its close, brotherly relations with Iran and considers them effective in defending Lebanon's sovereignty.
In a separate report published hours later the same day, Khabar Online said Hezbollah, in a sharper response, said it needs no one's approval to prove it is Lebanese and patriotic. The new US sanctions, announced by the Treasury Department on Thursday, targeted individuals and entities linked to Iran, Hezbollah, Russia and Cuba.
