Hormozgan officials say US struck points near Qeshm early Thursday; damage assessment under way

Ahmad Nafisi, deputy governor of Hormozgan province for political, security and social affairs, said on Thursday, 30 July 2026, that points near Qeshm county were hit by a US military strike at 4am local time that same morning. He said initial assessments at the site were under way, and that a fuller report on the scope of the strike and any damage would be released later through official channels.
Qeshm sits in the Strait of Hormuz, close to the lane used by oil tankers and commercial shipping, the same corridor that has been the focus of military tension in recent days and the trigger for a sharp jump in oil prices. Iran's IRNA news agency also reported that the United States resumed strikes on Iranian territory on Wednesday night US Eastern time (29 July, or 7 Mordad).
Iranian markets are closed on Thursday, so the reaction of the Tehran Stock Exchange and of the gold and currency markets will not be measurable until the first trading day of next week.
