According to Mehr News, citing Euronews, the EU average diesel price reached 2.159 euros per liter based on the European Commission's weekly data as of September 14, 2026, the highest level in the Commission's statistical series since 2005, up nearly 40 percent since the start of 2026. Citing the Financial Times, the report links part of the pressure to a global refined products output drop of more than 4 million barrels per day in August versus a year earlier, and to Middle East refiners' diesel exports falling to roughly a quarter of pre war levels, with attacks on Russian refining infrastructure adding to the shortage. In the United States, Reuters reported average diesel prices hit a record $6.29 a gallon this week, up 68 percent from a year earlier. On the supply side, per Chinese customs data cited by Reuters, China's refined fuel exports rose 12.7 percent year on year in August to 6.01 million tons, with diesel exports up 42.1 percent to 1.33 million tons, helping offset part of the global shortfall. Euronews also reported eurozone energy inflation reached 14.3 percent in August, up from 10.3 percent in July.
