In Mashhad, Sangak Bread Prices Rose About 70 Percent in Two Months
24 September 2026 · 13 days ago
Seyed Hassan Hosseini, the governor of Mashhad, said that over the past two months traditional bread prices in the city have risen by an average of 50 percent and sangak bread by about 70 percent. The remarks were published on Thursday, September 24, 2026, citing Mehr News Agency.
According to the governor, flour played no part in the increase: government and subsidized bakeries pay only a transport charge of 1,000 tomans per kilogram, and semi-state bakeries pay 12,000 tomans per kilogram of flour. He cited shop rent, wages, insurance, taxes, and water, electricity and gas bills as the main drivers of the higher bread prices.
