In the US Senate, a Resolution to Halt Military Action Against Iran Fails by One Vote
25 September 2026 · 11 days ago
The US Senate on Thursday, September 24, 2026, rejected a resolution drafted under the War Powers Act that called for halting the Trump administration's military action against Iran, by a vote of 49 in favour to 50 against.
With the result, the Senate placed no new limit on the US administration's authority to continue military operations against Iran. The vote came as Tehran and Washington pursue renewed diplomatic efforts to end the war on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York, a track to which the currency, gold and oil markets remain sensitive.
