Iran parliament research center: summer 2026 power deficit to reach 13,640 megawatts in realistic scenario
15 July 2026 | 3 months ago
In a report on summer electricity supply, the research arm of Iran's parliament said the gap between supply and demand at peak consumption will reach about 13,640 megawatts under a realistic scenario, close to one fifth of available supply at the moment of greatest load. The report put maximum simultaneous supply at about 68,420 megawatts and peak network demand above 81,000 megawatts.
The center added that the shortfall would be around 10,000 megawatts in the most optimistic case and nearly 18,000 megawatts in the worst. Damage to self-supplied power plants during the recent conflict has taken part of the capacity offline, deepening chronic power shortages. The report was published as rolling blackouts began in Tehran.
