Akbar Fathi, Iran's deputy agriculture minister for planning and economic affairs, said in remarks published by Mehr on Monday, October 19, 2026 that the guaranteed wheat purchase price has not been approved and the pricing council will decide at its next meeting. He attributed the competing proposals to different estimates of farm production costs, one based on field operations and the other on prevailing tariffs. Fathi also said the government is considering private-sector and fund participation in buying wheat for bakeries, separately from supplies for commercial and industrial users. His comments describe a financing plan under consideration, not a new price approved for growers.
